Homeopathy and Water
It is my hope that these fascinating DYNAMIC ideas that have been shielded behind the static idea of biology open the door to understanding traditional medicine.
“Structured water” is a popular topic especially for homeopathy where theoretically a remedy may create a lasting imprint on water despite its absence after successive dilution: “The connection of the imprinting, via succussion and possible epitaxy*, of the different specific homeopathic remedies on the structure of water eliminates the primitive criticism of homeopathy being untenable due to the absence of any remnant of the molecules. Structures change properties vastly more easily and dramatically than chemistry changes them. Beyond the homeopathic field, such an enormous structural pliability also provides a plausible framework for the claims of the most reliable workers in the field of “subtle energies” to be able to change the structure and properties of water.“ (Roy).
I became interested in water through Gilbert Ling’s work in which he developed a theory in the 1950s of the most basic structure of life which he calls the Nano-protoplasm (Ling). While describing this structure he also calls into question 2 core ideas of biology: (1) the idea that ATP is an energy source when in fact the bonds are not particularly high in energy, and (2) that the Na-K pump to maintain electrochemical gradients across cell is impossible in that it would require an enormous amount of energy to operate (Ling). These concepts open up the mind for the possibility that the body’s fluids are dynamic and that these fluids are essentially crystalline.
We are taught in our schooling to look at the cell in the nonliving state like a cartoon, such as this:
In Ling’s model, which is remarkable simple (as simple as a water softener in fact, which can be demonstrated in a high school lab - Ling), we see a picture here of a living state that we need be aware of - this state is crystalline:
The Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a specialized fluid produced in a protected environment of the brain. CSF is mostly water - and we now know that it flows through the brain and spinal cord and can diffuse out into the periphery making up the lymphatics and then mixing into the tissues and blood. There is a continuity of this specialized fluid, CSF, throughout the body (Armstrong).
This continuity of fluids extends remarkably into the connective tissue and fascia: “As indicated by recent research, osteopaths have long suggested that connective tissue networks contain fluid and are part of a body-wide communication network” (Cenaj). Osteopaths have been well aware of this movement of fluid and the healing power of releasing stagnant fluid: (Armstrong).
It is my hope that these fascinating DYNAMIC ideas that have been shielded behind the static idea of biology open the door to understanding traditional medicine.
In my research I came across William F. Koch’s homeopathic ideas. He developed ideas of oxidative metabolism and especially developed the idea that quinones are important in the mitochondria. Dr. Koch found the ortho-quinones from the bark of the Pau D’Arco tree were agents for treating cancer due to their effect on metabolism (Koch). One of the compounds he used was glyoxylide which was diluted and given as a cancer cure in 1917. He was put on trial several times and the prosecution held that glyoxylide was a product he made and was not natural, and the claims were untrue given the dilution of the treatment contained no trace of glyoxylide (https://beyondsciencelabs.com/research/the-1917-cancer-cure/)
Today, Koch is thought of as a quack despite his contributions to our understanding of oxidative metabolism and that the principal molecule in his cancer cure was identified just recently: https://www.sciencealert.com/existence-of-elusive-molecule-confirmed-after-more-than-a-century
Oxidative metabolism connects with fluid dynamics through Ling’s work. It is with this connection that ideas of homeopathy, osteopathy, bioenergetics, and traditional medicine ideas of fluids and humors may come together to provide a cohesive framework in understanding our work as holistic practitioners.
